MYTHS myths and myths...
One legend claims stealing someone's shadow (by measuring it against a wall and driving a nail through its head) can turn the victim into a vampire.
Avoid people who talk to themselves. According to Ukrainian legend, that could indicate a dual soul and the second one doesn't die! Also watch out for the seventh son of a seventh son, a person born with a red caul (amniotic membrane covering the head), or a child born with teeth. A vampire can result if a cat or dog walks over a fresh grave, a bat flies over the corpse, or the person has died suddenly as a result of suicide or murder. Unfinished business can also cause a body to rise, as can inadequate burial rites, including a grave that is too shallow.
Most vampires are described in folklore as flushed and ruddy, with swollen bodies and bloated faces. Often, they can be identified because they're sitting up in the grave.
According to folklore, there are a number of ways to protect yourself from vampires, including the ever-popular wearing of garlic or a religious symbol. You can slow a vampire down by giving him something to do, like pick up poppy seeds or unravel a net. (They're quite compulsive.) Cross water and he can't follow. If you can find the body, give it a bottle of whiskey or food so it doesn't have to travel. If that doesn't work, either shoot the corpse (may require a silver bullet) or drive a stake through the heart. And remember, the vampire won't enter your dwelling unless invited.
Trivia is the Roman goddess of sorcery, hounds and the crossroads.
In Dante's "Inferno" the Ninth Circle of Hell is reserved for those who betray family or country. The denizens of this deepest circle, who are frozen in ice, include Judas (betrayer of Christ) and Cassius and Brutus (betrayers of Julius Caesar).
Abe Silverstein, who headed NASA's Space Flight Development Program, proposed the name Apollo for the space exploration programs in the 1960's. He chose that legendary Greek name because the virile Apollo was a god who rode through the skies in a magnificent golden chariot. The precedent of naming manned spacecraft for mythological gods had been set earlier with Project Mercury, also named by Silverstein.
Some people consider the $1 bill unlucky because there are so many 13's on it: 13 stars, 13 stripes, 13 steps, 13 arrows and even an olive branch with 13 leaves on it. Of course the $1 bill is unlucky - if it was lucky it would be a $100 bill.
The name of the legendary Lady Godiva's horse - Aethenoth
An artificial spider and web are often included in the decorations on Ukrainian Christmas trees. A spider web found on Christmas morning is believed to bring good luck.
When visiting Finland, Santa leaves his sleigh behind and rides on a goat named Ukko. Finnish folklore has it that Ukko is made of straw, but is strong enough to carry Santa Claus anyway.
According to legend, if a hare crosses a person's path as he starts out on a journey, the trip will be unlucky and it's best to return home and start again. If a pregnant woman sees a hare, her child may be born with a hare-lip. If a hare runs down the main street of a town, it foretells a fire. Cornish legend says that girls who die of grief after being rejected by a lover turn into white hares and haunt their former beaus.
Ancient Greeks wove marjoram into funeral wreaths and put them on the graves of loved ones. The wreaths served as prayers for the happiness of the deceased in a future life.
Breaking of a glass is traditional in some wedding ceremonies. This custom symbolizes different things. To some its the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, and for some its the represents the fragility of a relationship.
In Greek culture, brides carry a lump of sugar in their wedding glove. It's supposed to bring sweetness to their married life.
Placing a wreath on a grave is part of an ancient belief it was necessary to provide comforts for the dead and give them gifts in order for their spirits to not haunt the mourners. The circular arrangement represents a magic circle which is supposed to keep the spirit within its bounds.
The Sphinx at Giza in Egypt is 240 feet long and carved out of limestone. Built by Pharaoh Khafre to guard the way to his pyramid, it has a lion's body and the ruler's head.
The Vikings believed that the Northern lights which are seen from time to time in the north sky were caused by the flashing armor and spears of Odin's handmaidens as they rode out to collect warriors slain in battle.
One gift-giving taboo in China is the giving of straw sandals, which are associated with funerals, and therefore considered bad luck.
Crossing one's fingers is a way of secretly making the sign of the Cross. It was started by early Christians to ask for divine assistance without attracting the attention of pagans.
One sign of rain that farmers once searched for was for their pigs to pick up sticks and walk around with them in their mouths.
During the Civil War, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant believed that onions would prevent dysentery and other physical ailments. He reportedly sent the following message via wire to the War Department: "I will not move my army without onions." Within a day, the U.S. government sent three trainloads of onions to the front.
Contrary to popular belief, there are almost no Buddhists in India, nor have there been for about a thousand years.
On the stone temples of Madura in southern India, there are more than 30 million carved images of gods and goddesses.
One superstition says that if a girl leaves her house early on Valentine's Day and the first person she meets is a man, then she will be married within three months.
Less romantic was the old historical opinion that Valentine's Day is a good day to prepare eels for the purposes of magic. Eating an eel's heart was once believed to enable a person to see into the future.
The reason one wears a wedding ring on the third finger is that (tradition says) there is supposed to be a vein which goes directly from that finger to the heart—i.e., the seat of love. Also, not everyone wears that wedding ring on the third finger of the LEFT hand. In some traditions, such as the Jewish one, it is worn on the right hand. Also, I'm given to understand that nuns ("brides of Christ") wear a wedding ring, again on the right hand.
To prevent evil spirits from entering the bodies of their male children, parents dressed them in blue. Blue was chosen because it's the color of the sky and was therefore associated with heavenly spirits.
Girls weren't dressed in blue, apparently because people didn't think that evil spirits would bother with them. Eventually, however, girls did get their own color: pink. Pink was chosen because of an old English legend which said that girls were born inside of pink roses.
The famous Citgo sign near Fenway Park in Boston is maintained not by Citgo, but by Boston's historical society.
In the 1700's you could purchase insurance against going to hell, in London England.
The Aztec Indians of Mexico believed turquoise would protect them from physical harm, and so warriors used these green and blue stones to decorate their battle shields.
Black cats are considered lucky in England.
Long ago, the people of Nicaragua believed that if they threw beautiful young women into a volcano it would stop erupting.
In medieval times, thunderstorms were believed by some to be the work of demons. So when it stormed, bell ringers would go up into the bell towers to ring the consecrated bells in an effort to stop the storm. This practice didn't always work out well for the bell ringer.
No one knows where the expression "to grin like a Cheshire cat" originated, but it wasn't with Carroll. The Cheshire cat is a well-known character in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but the expression, meaning a sneering smile that shows the gums, existed long before he wrote the book. There is no such breed of cat.

During the middle ages, it was widely believed that men had one less rib than woman. This is because of the story in the Bible that Eve had been created out of Adam's rib.
The seven deadly sins (sins serious enough to kill one's soul) are currently anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust, gluttony, and covetousness. They haven't always been so, however. Originally, there were eight deadly sins (as proposed by Avagrius of Pontus). The eight (in order of increasing severity) were gluttony, lust, avarice, sadness, anger, apathy, vainglory, and pride. Gregory the Great later decided that vainglory and pride were too much alike to be counted separately and combined them. He added envy. Later still, the Roman Catholic Church decided sadness wasn't a sin, and added sloth. Somewhere along the way, apathy was dropped as well.
Hindu men once believed it to be unluckily to marry a third time. They could avoid misfortune by marrying a tree first. The tree (his third wife) was then burnt, freeing him to marry again.
When christening a ship, instead of using champagne, the Vikings would sacrifice a human being.

Hansel and Gretel
Teacher: Isn't the story of Hansel and Gretel very fascinating, kids? Think of the ginger-bread house the witch was living in...
Lily (stands up with a frown Yeah, ma'am. But if I were the witch I would have Hansel and Gretel pay for the part of the house they ate, then record a gain on sale for the difference of the selling price and the cost of the part of the house they ate, minus accumulated depreciation.
Teacher: You know, Lily, I really should be talking to your parents about this accounting thing...

A Story of a BSAcc Student by ANG DAMI MO NGANG UNO, ACCOUNTANCY KA BA?!(A Facebook Accountancy Community Page)
I had always wanted to be a writer. Maybe that's the reason why I can't devote all my mind and heart to accounting before. However, there comes a point in every person's life when he has to choose between what he wants and what he needs. After being one of the top 3 examinees for the staffers exam of our school newspaper, I was asked to take another exam for the editorial position. As I was doing so, I realized that I can't balance being a BSA student and an editor-in-chief at the same time. I had to make a choice. So before the exam ended, I screwed my answers to the remaining questions and left the room with a smile and the hope that it was the right thing to do. After all, I am already a staffer, and that's more than enough for me. That's when I realized that in spite of all those "I am not happy with accounting" and "I want to shift" dramas, accounting had already been so important to me. Accounting first before anything else.

Accounting...
Accounting is not only about those sleepless nights, never-ending reviews, brain-draining examinations, thick books to read, or skipped trips. It is also about having a goal, a direction, a dream that is worth fighting for, which motivates you to stay in spite of all the sacrifices along the way.
It is not just about being a walking zombie or someone with large eye bags and uncombed hair, but about being a responsible and competent student who can still find time to laugh, have fun, and enjoy in spite of having a stressful and demanding life style.
It is not always about how high your grades are, but about how much you learned from your class. Nor does it always pertain about having a failing grade. Rather, it is about how that failure motivates you to do better next time.
It is not always about how your professors grade you, how you grade yourself is important too.
It does not always focus on how you balance your debits and credits, but also on how you balance your time and priorities.
Accounting is not only about how hard it is today, but about how rewarding it will be in the future.
Now if you are gonna ask me how I define accounting, I don't think I can give the perfect definition. All I know is that accounting is NOT something that puts a smile on my face every time I wake up, rather is something that makes me a better person, it makes me want to achieve more, it makes me want to learn more. Accounting is like riding a roller coaster. Some people think that it is scary and many people avoid riding on it because of the fear of falling down. Riding a roller coaster can be terrifying, it can be fun, it can be difficult. But after the ride, the terror and chaos that came streaming in a rush within your veins will be replaced with the pride of accomplishing something unusual, something bizarre. Sooner than you will realize, this "something" is the the most EXTRAORDINARY special "something" that you will be proud of. And it will be something which you will remember for THE REST OF YOUR LIFETIME. You will from then on realize, that the accounting that gave you HEADACHES and EYEBAGS, is the ACCOUNTING that will make you feel ELITE.

December 21, 2012: End of Human Race?(WTF!) - Inspired by History Channels Armageddon Programs

By: Niccolo Q. Garcia
NO OFFENSE FOR HISTORY CHANNEL LOL!
Have you ever tried to surf the internet and come across with the "December 21, 2012: Doomsday" thing and your heartbeat went at full speed? you have a doubt at it but for some reason something inside you made you convinced that you're dead. It's all over the internet, and even at some "knowledge channel" that I know. Is this era the beginning of the end?
The Mayans, the Egyptians, the shamans of the Aztec, Sumerians, Mesopotamians, and other ancient civilizations including Nostradamus of 1500's, predicted the exact same day of the end of time, December 12, 2012. It is the end of the 26,000 year cycle (end of Mayan calendar). For the ancients, this is the point that marks the mass destruction of the universe. It will be the time wherein the great galactic alignment will occur, where the sun will be in perfect alignment with the center of the Milkyway, this will be the greatest eclipse that will be recorded in the history of mankind. For them this will trigger the greatest catastrophes that will cause the end of mankind. Scary? Think again. When you go back to your logic and rationality there is NO way that the ancients have an efficient way of finding out where the center of the galaxy is, nor if there is even a galaxy; Even Nostradamus that lived 500 years ago doesn't have any clue about what even a galaxy is, because it was only in 1920 (420 years after Nostradamus died) that our milky way is identified as a galaxy, and telescope was just invented in the 1600's. (100 years after the existence of Nostradamus). Another 2012 argument that is clearly false statement is that on the said date there will be polar shifts, this is a phenomenon where in the magnetic charges of the North Pole and the South Pole changes, and this will have a dramatic effect on life on earth. Actually 780,000 years ago this happened and this happens in an irregular interval averaging to every 300,000 years and we are 480,000 years due. No one really knows when will the next Polar Shift will occur, not even the NASA knows. If ever it happens on the said date it will never happen instantly, because this is a 5,000-year process so this means that the effect will never really be felt, because it will be a very sloOow step-by-step thousand-year process. The last thing that will be cleared in this article is the validity of the arguments of the predictions of Nostradamus. HE IS A HOAX! The most famous of his predictions is the 9/11 Terrorist attack it goes this way: "In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror…
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city…
In the city of york there will be a great collapse,
2 twin brothers torn apart by chaos while the fortress falls the great leader will succumb". The first statement talks about the year 2001 (year of the new century), the next states the month September (9th month), and the others talks about the next thing that happens on New York and the twin towers. It is the exact same thing that really happened, scary isn't it? But I tell you this prediction was modified and remodified for centuries here is the actual prophecy:
"The year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror:
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck."
The year was 1999 and it was actually the seventh month. If we are to go back to that moment in history, THERE IS NO MAJOR EVENT THAT HAD HAPPENED! This Nostradamus is really the king of deceit, a hoax genius. He made 500 other "prophesies" and had written it in apocalyptic and seemingly coded way that 500 future events that we may encounter may be misassociated with it, due to its unclear meaning. And he made too many predictions so that there will be greater chance that it may come true.
End is a normal phenomenon for things that has beginning. No one really knows when will we die. Not The Aztecs. Not the Mayans, not the rest of the ancients. And Definitely not Nostradamus. Not even the angels and saints knew it. Only HE who made this Universe knew. So Stop the F***ing panic about 2012. We will certainly have an end but no one knows.

Sablay
May klase nanaman ako. Mabait kaya yun napagdaanan naman siguro niya to.. ZzZZZzzZzzZ at nakatulog nga ako..
At pag gising ko..
Basa ang unan ko. Laway! Kanino kayang laway to? "ArRrRgGg mali. Sando pala to akala ko brief!", "Ay napunit. "Naku!
Mabilis... WhoOoOShHH!

Battle Field of Life
This entity within our being that do make us feel, think, and live is what they call LIFE. Most of us take advantage of this phenomenon. Most of us just believe that this life is all about rainbows and butterflies. They always wanted to be looking on the brighter side of the existence of this vast and complicated universe. How about the dark side?
Do not just underestimate the darker portion of your life. It will be tantamount to a disease. A really simple disease that is not given proper medication and may mutate into an essence-devouring virus that will slowly consume your very being. As they always say prevention is always better than cure, but what if you've been already infected? The answer is simply just do not IGNORE. Pay attention. Think. Device a plan. Implement your plan. Whenever your plan failed you, do not be disappointed, make another. Three Billion people out there also fail. FAILURE IS NORMAL. Do not be depressed by one crash. Be strong. Do not make this trials make you weak. USE IT. You can utilize your failure to improve your unsuccessful plan. Learn from your mistakes as many will say. Mistakes will always make you stronger, if you will not let lose because of it. It is like a game of chess. Whenever you lose, you will acquire new insights in the dos and don'ts of the next match. You will never do the move that made you lose in your last one-on-one. But this life is not just a simple game of reasoning and strategy. This is the REAL thing. Every move must be precise. Each step must be accurate(because this is not a GAME). Plan(to be certain and ready) . Think critically (Before you decide). Decide (be objective in your decisions, weigh every angle). And whenever you smell confidence; ATTACK! But slowly, to be really exact in infiltrating the enemy. Upon execution of the strategy, on the end you may say: "CHECK MATE". Taste not victory but WISDOM, the value of learning.
This war is not about victory or tragedy. This is not about winning or losing. This is all about learning...

Do not read this. This is a piece of trash. This is a waste of TIME!
Wag kang duwag! Mga bubwit at ipis lang ang naduduwag. Hindi ka bubwit. At lalong ayaw mong magisng ipis. Kaya laban kapatid!

Yesterday's Footprints
Remember the time when we spend almost all of our spare time together? The joy, the tear, the laughter, and everything I remember, I miss those feelings. I miss that time. I wish I could reverse the pace of time. I wanted everything back, but I don't know how and where to begin. I want to fix this mess, for us, specially you, to be happy. I can't help when I see you crying, but feel guilty. You shouldn't be crying if you haven't met me. I wanted to tell you what is wrong, but you wouldn't listen. I tried my best to speak up and open what is wrong. I am at the peak of my patience. I am almost loosing hope. I don't know what to do. But I know deep within me that I really wanted you back and I really miss you. I just don't know how to fix everything up. I wish it does fix itself, because I really can't, even though I wanted to.

From The book Purpose Driven Life by Rick warren (Nagustohan ko lang)
By Rick Warren, the Purpose Driven Life
Don't date because you are desperate.
Don't marry because you are miserable.
Don't have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don't philander because you think you are irresistible.
Don't associate with people you can't trust.
Don't cheat. Don't lie.. Don't pretend.
Don't dictate because you are smarter.
Don't demand because you are stronger.
Don't sleep around because you think you are old enough & know better.
Don't hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don't sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don't stagnate!
Don't regress.
Don't live in the past. Time can't bring anything or anyone back.
Don't put your life on hold for possibly Mr.. Right.
Don't throw your life away on absolutely Mr. Wrong because your biological clock is ticking.
Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career.
Sometimes, there is no race to be won, only a price to be paid for some of
life's more hasty decisions.
To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy.
To fulfill your parenting fantasies, get a puppy.
Don't bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions & be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life. Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habits, and dangerous liaisons.
Don't abandon your responsibilities but don't overdose on duty.
Don't live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself.
Don't commit when you are not ready.
Don't keep others waiting needlessly.
Go on that trip.Don't postpone it.
Say those words. Don't let the moment pass.
Do what you have to, even at society's scorn.
Write poetry.
Love Deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.
Take care of yourself. Don't wait for someone to take care of you.
You light up your life.
You drive yourself to your destination.
No one completes you - except YOU.
It isn't true that life does not get easier with age.. It only gets more challenging.
Don't be afraid. Don't lose your capacity to love.
Pursue your passions.
Live your dreams.
Don't lose faith in God.
Don't grow old. Just grow YOU!
When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you'll never get back.
Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give to someone is your time.
Relationships take time and effort, and the best way to spell love is T-I-M-E because the essence of love is not what we think or do or provide for others, but how much we give of ourselves...

MISTERIA
